OK, but were the other poster's friends doing any of the things you listed?

  Not everyone has many friends, and if your one or two friends (literally 1 or 2) aren't there, there is no one. Your family might live out of town, too. When my ex attempted suicide, he'd have succeeded if he lived alone. Few people would notice my own absence for some time if I lived alone, honestly.
