It appears to me completely differently, which I guess is something else that feeds into the divide. I get the "they're pitting us all against each other" thing from the people I know I on both sides, and honestly I think they both have a point. The fact that I can't tell which party is which in your story makes believe this more so.
- TheGrim-999 6y agoOnly one party has near complete control over mass media, social media, and big tech. If you want to get a first approximation of who's driving the "scandal", you should pretty obviously look at the ones who control nearly every piece of information you consume. The ones who spent every second of every minute of every day for the last five years straight finding some propaganda to use against Trump and the other half of the country. The ones who are actively censoring any opposition to their political ideology. The ones who have redefined "democracy" to mean them getting their way, and "the end of democracy" to mean any other political ideas getting heard. Maybe you should start there, with the ideology that controls every piece of information you're allowed to consume. Bring on the downvotes, censor me, anyone with different political ideas than you deserves to be censored and removed from society. Bring on democracy! You're not the ones causing scandal, that's for sure.
- munk-a 6y agoPlease don't openly solicit down votes - it's a tactic that has no place on hackernews and will end up getting you down votes completely ignoring the rest of your statement.
- Daho0n 6y agoHow funny, I was 100% sure you meant the republicans but then.. >finding some propaganda to use against Trump Oh boy.
- mattnewton 6y agoI don’t think there is a political party who owns all the media, there is media selling to the highest bidder. How can it all be out to get Trump with the incredible reach of Fox? https://www.foxnews.com/media/fox-news-finishes-2020-as-most-watched-cable-news-channel-in-history https://www.foxnews.com/media/fox-news-finishes-2020-as-most... The truth is nearly all media is just out to get eyeballs and sell ads. If you’re downvoted, it’ll be because of asking for downvotes and talking about censorship without evidence. It’s incredible to me that you cannot see right wing bias as well as the left bias.
- eyelidlessness 6y agoIf you can't tell which party is which... one of them thinks Mexicans are rapists (or it's okay to insinuate that) and called nazis "very fine people" and so on. You can assume from the full stop that the other didn't do any of those things.
- BobbyJo 6y agoFYI, and this may come as a surprise, Trump is not the entire republican party.
- eyelidlessness 6y agoThis may come as a surprise too but the person you’re talking about was a lifelong Democrat. He didn’t express views like that openly until he was sure he had a shot at the nomination. He said what the party was thinking or wishing.
- BobbyJo 6y agoSo you're saying every republican likes/agrees with Trump? That's easily falsifiable. If that's not your point, I'm not sure what is?
- eyelidlessness 6y agoMost professional Republicans didn’t actually agree with his views as candidate/president. Doesn’t matter. It was popular enough that they wouldn’t cross him. Voters... well, go look at the polls. The vast majority voting Republican did like or agree and were unwavering. Or go look at approval ratings and see he had a floor around 1/3 of the population. Roughly one in three people in the US was racist and hateful enough to hold an electorally decisive minority of the country hostage for one presidential cycle and threaten one more.
- BobbyJo 6y agoOk, so now your argument is: If you voted for Trump, you agreed with everything he said, and if you didn't, it doesn't matter because most Republicans did? Still a little out there for me.
