The Only Carbon Capture Plant in the US Just Closed
- PaulHoule 6y agoIt's not the only. This one has been in operation for some time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakota_Gasification_Company https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakota_Gasification_Company and I think it still is running. Like the one in the article they pump the CO2 into an oil formation to recover more oil, which works good because supercritical CO2 goes into the smallest pores and dissolves very well. There is another one here https://www.energy.gov/fe/articles/doe-announces-major-milestone-reached-illinois-industrial-ccs-project https://www.energy.gov/fe/articles/doe-announces-major-miles... that one is interesting because it is a "BECCS" plant that is capturing carbon from biofuel use and thus is capturing it from the atmosphere as opposed to a fossil fuel source. Also the CO2 disposal mechanism is injection into a saline aquifier which is the most generic method there is right now.
