I'm pretty astonished at the level of certainty going on here that this was corrupt. Isn't spouting off on that the easy path? Can it at least be accepted that it is possible to accept speaking fees without engaging in a quid pro quo for later favors? Given that, shouldn't there be a hint of evidence that there is some sort of actual agreement or plans to do a bribed action, aside from the speech and speaking fees themselves?
- jaywalk 6y agoIt's probably corrupt. But even if it's not, people recuse themselves for far less all the time. The fact that she is refusing to do so is, quite honestly, disgusting.
- philosopher1234 6y agoWhy are Janet yellens (or really anyone’s) speeches worth 700k? What could she possibly teach citadel employees in that short time that could generate so much value?
- threwawasy1228 6y agoNo, it is so highly improbable that someone would receive the equivalent of a years tech salary in SV for a handful of speeches that the act itself is immediately suspect. If we required the kind of evidence that you are talking about no bribery cases would ever be put forward. Also, what you are asking for is NOT required by law to bring forward such a case legally speaking. You aren't required to have a smoking gun.
