- gspr 6y ago> and so thoroughly documented! /s Why is this sarcasm? I've rarely seen a young free software project even come close to the level of documentation of Sway! Have you tried `man 5 sway` yet?
- Shared404 6y ago> Sway is documented through man pages, rather than the website From your link. Oh, hey. That was hard.
- mnd999 6y agoUnless you have nVidia graphics, sway is probably a drop in replacement for you, with minimal changes from your i3 config. You can literally cp ~/.config/i3/config ~/.config/sway/config and it will work. If you have nVidia, you're outta luck.
- hprotagonist 6y agoI work in ML and the sciences, so nvidia is a huge huge part of my daily life. intentionally crippling a DE out of spite so it cannot run on the drivers i use every single day is also a crappy look. https://drewdevault.com/2017/10/26/Fuck-you-nvidia.html https://drewdevault.com/2017/10/26/Fuck-you-nvidia.html
- Shared404 6y agoFrom your link: > There are Linux kernel APIs that we (and other Wayland compositors) use to get the job done. Among these are KMS, DRM, and GBM - respectively Kernel Mode Setting, Direct Rendering Manager, and Generic Buffer Management. Every GPU vendor but Nvidia supports these APIs. Edit: I should mention, if your hardware doesn't support given software, just don't use that software. There's just no need to go in shouting about how terrible said software is.
- hprotagonist 6y ago> if your hardware doesn't support given software, just don't use that software. There's just no need to go in shouting about how terrible said software is tell that to DDV :)
- Shared404 6y agoRanting about people complaining because you don't go out of your way to support their hardware doesn't seem the same to me.
- jeromenerf 6y agoMore like i3-gaps, and other capabilities, such as monitors , keyboard settings, idle/lock included.
- Shared404 6y agoYou are correct of course, Sway does do a little more than i3 does. That being said, you can still get the same experience as you are used to by dropping in your i3 config file. I'm not saying that you "Need to move! Using X still is evil!", I'm just saying dismissing Sway out of hand because it's "Not i3" isn't fair either.
