Maybe because some kinds of news tend not to be considered newsworthy if it doesn't come from "interesting" countries. Or tend to not to even gather local interest, fizzling out before being picked up elsewhere. E.g. in South America there are (a few?) very active ufologists, purported UFO sightings, people claiming abductions, communications or contacts with aliens. Sometimes they even manage to capture some lights in the sky. But they are (or were as of a decade ago) not taken particularly seriously by local press, so I'd expect the vast majority of these claims, specially those with a strong local flavor, not to bubble up to international news.
Does your impression come from general news or reading UFO sites? I'd expect a lot more (badly) reported incidents from other countries in specialized media.

But due to the way crimes are reported and how news is created in florida it creates an impression of something 'different'. Remember news is also not necessarily 'news' it is also a form of entertainment for many. So things that are popular will tend to pop to the top. As those orgs will get feedback that people want to hear more about a particular thing. It is why click baiting is so effective.
- lumpa 6y agoAgreed, local reporting culture (and how it's received elsewhere) probably has a big impact. Besides serious/entertaining news, there's also the fact some places/news cultures relish reporting on exotic stuff, while others feel belittled/offended and actively fight reporting with, say, a "Florida Man" or "UFO true believers in town" flavor. The other side of the coin is exaggerating the exoticness of people's behavior, animal facts, etc., reported from obscure far away places, but for which very similar examples exist locally (and most likely wouldn't result in successful news articles).
