The problem I usually experience is a developer who is unable/unwilling to even imagine that there sometimes are better ways to do things than whatever is fashionable/popular at the moment. I realised that it usually reveals a deep lack of understanding of what we are trying to accomplish and/or not understanding the pros/cons of the technology that is currently fashionable.
