I call this "the holy spirit of snacking", and I trace it back at least to my grandfather who always liked a good lox-and-cream-cheese-on-chocolate-donut sandwich. I also got the peanut-butter-and-mozzarella-on-english-muffin sandwich from him, which I legitimately enjoy.
