Why shorter food supply chains aren’t necessarily better
- mint2 6y agoI don’t think local means what they imply, which seems to be within an arbitrary geopolitical border like the Netherlands or Belgium for example. Don’t grow citrus in Amsterdam just get it from the Mediterranean not Brazil. And while maybe it’s fine to import the beef, maybe take a second look if the logistics of raising it locally would be absurd. Maybe it’s fine to do that and sustainable or maybe eat less depending because it could be outsourcing the unsustainable practice. Only an analysis will show which. And that’s not even addressing that one doesn’t have to get tomatoes in January, but instead could eat seasonally.
