I think he's just making a sensationalist title. I work in SF and ride Bart for an hour. Like in his post, I work most of the way, have internet access most of the way, and find I get a lot done. Public transit isn't unique to New York. They just have more of it. He's just trying to turn it into a Silicon Valley vs rest of the world thing.
