I dunno; proximity can be important for HR stuff. A former client brought in a recruiting consultant mostly because she was black and was an alum of a 'traditional' black school. The kid had many connections and brought in some serious engineering talent (good h/w engineers are more difficult to find than s/w engineers in this industry segment). FWIW, I am an older white male that is both conservative and progressive.
