Toyota solid-state battery lighter, much more powerful than current lithium-ion
- bluedays 6y agoYes, but is it consumer repairable? Is it even repairable at a reasonable price? I swore off batteries after the Prius battery died. In order to repair it I would have had to pay 3k to replace the entire battery. Until these batteries are more modular, or cheaper/easier to repair I don't think electric cars are going to catch on. Besides, in the era of covid with fewer people going into the office than ever before, what's the point in an electric car?

- birdman3131 6y agoI will believe it when it is my hands. I could wallpaper a house with all the different new battery technologies that are lab only.
- pcdoodle 6y agoSame here, It's like crying wolf at this point. In other news, I built an e-bike trailer that pushes my bike 170 miles with 1/16th of a model S battery (5,300wh) at a cost of $1200 shipped (eBay). These prices should come down in the next 4 years.
- imglorp 6y ago> We are accelerating development aiming for commercialization by the first half of the 2020s. Irrelevant until they can scale to a million cars a year.
- allears 6y agoThis is only a vague press release about a laboratory demo. Wake me up when there's an actual product.
- slacka 6y agoHere is a better article: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a33435923/toyota-solid-state-battery-2025/ https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a33435923/toyota-solid-sta... This tech is still heavily in R&D. It's all hype until they work out how to mass produce it, a good 5+ years off.
