Poll: Do you trust VM RNGs?
When running a server instance on Amazon/Rackspace/etc, where your server relies on /dev/random (e.g. for SSL and other cryptography),
- AretNCarlsen 15y agoI had to submit this three times before it would show all of the options properly. Think I lost one vote for (1). Sorry about that. Poll prompted by: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2596822 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2596822
- tptacek 15y agoI flagged this, because what limited discussion there is about virtualized crypto is on this thread: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2596822 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2596822 ... and the poll does nothing but fracture the discussion. (Also: "entropy testers"?)
- AretNCarlsen 15y agoEntropy testers: Robert Brown's dieharder: http://www.phy.duke.edu/~rgb/General/dieharder.php http://www.phy.duke.edu/~rgb/General/dieharder.php NIST Statistical Test Suite: http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/ST/toolkit/rng/index.html http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/ST/toolkit/rng/index.html Fourmilab's ENT: http://www.fourmilab.ch/random/ http://www.fourmilab.ch/random/
