- valenterry 6y agoBut the battery starts to become weaker - and I have some trouble with the charger (it's on the device, not the cable). Too bad it's always so hard to exchange battery in these devices.
- paulryanrogers 6y agoIndeed. This and dropping SDcards (so built in flash burn out sooner) contributes to electronic waste just as much as bloated websites and apps.
- arsome 6y agoIf you're a tinkerer, I'd seriously recommend using something like ACC (Advanced Charging Controller). It'll automatically cut your charge off at ~80% and slow the charging if it's heating up too much. Should greatly extend the service life of your battery. You can pretty much just install with Magisk and forget it. Perhaps it's too late for your current phone/battery but maybe on the next one. https://github.com/VR-25/acc https://github.com/VR-25/acc Pair with something like AccuBattery for visibility into battery capacity over time.
- CameronNemo 6y agoI've been looking for something like this for a long time. I wonder if it is usable on non-Android Linux kernels for hardware that uses USB charging.
- megous 6y agoOn normal Linux, if your device has a proper PMIC with a driver that allows this, you can just change the max charging voltage to something like 4.1V or less via sysfs (/sys/class/power_supply/*) on each boot. You can do the same for maximum charging current, to avoid so called "fast charging", and charge at 0.2C for example. And that's it.
- andor 6y agoA few years ago, Oneplus service replaced the battery in my phone for a very low fee. It was done quickly and totally worth it.
- jeswin 6y agoOfficial battery replacement costs the equivalent of $16 in India, as listed on their website.
- estaseuropano 6y agoI also have trouble with the charger, it usually takes a minute of the old in'out until the phone and charger connect.
- rapsey 6y agoMy OnePlus 3 is still alive and kicking as a perfectly capable testing device.
- manojlds 6y agoStill using the OP5. Battery and charge pin are my only issues as of now.
- hebrox 6y agoJust replaced my 3T last week. Such a great device, still fast and only a few minor scratches. Too bad there were no more security updates. And although this is “hacker” news, I didn’t feel confident running non-stock Android..
- RealStickman_ 6y agoBeen running LineageOS on my OP3 for years already. Never had any problems that weren't caused by myself.
- villgax 6y agoLots of financial apps & cos treat OS names different than stock OS blindly as tampered/rooted for no reason. Maybe not on your daily driver but secondary phones will only survive with Lineage or community efforts.
- RealStickman_ 6y ago> Lots of financial apps & cos treat OS names different than stock OS blindly as tampered/rooted for no reason. Yeah true. I just ignore the warnings usually.
- pantalaimon 6y agoYou can still get updates https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/oneplus3 https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/oneplus3
- garaetjjte 6y agoI'm an outlier still using OnePlus One? I don't get the point of replacing phone every year or two.
- sstephant 6y agoI was a happy owner of the 1+ 2, 1+ 4. I'm now using the 1+ 6 and I'm glad to hear there's an upcoming Linux support. The thing is, my first two phones were stolen, so sometimes you don't really have a choice.
- pantalaimon 6y agoI used mine until a year ago when I got a new phone through work. It still runs the latest Android thanks to LineageOS and still was fast enough for the web (thanks to AdAway).
- uranium 6y agoI'm about to replace my OnePlus 5T. Last year it started garbling the incoming audio from outgoing phone calls, about 50% of the time. This week it garbled an incoming phone call, so I really can't put off upgrading any longer. I don't make a lot of voice calls, and from home I can use my land line, but if I can't receive calls, it's not a phone. I've really liked the phone apart from that, but it's a pretty big "apart from that", so I'm iffy on going OnePlus again. Support talked me through making a bug report, and then...nothing. Anybody else have a similar experience?

- gnulinux 6y agoI'm still using OnePlus 6. It's ok, I wouldn't say I love it but I use my phone only for chatting and browsing reddit so it's not worth a change. Besides, before I bought OnePlus 6 in 2018 I had a Samsung and it was a total shitshow. So I guess overall I'm happy with it.
- estaseuropano 6y agoI still use my OP6 but I have to admit I regretted buying it from day 1, there are just too many small inconveniences/annoyances and thanks to the various OP data scandals the eternal feeling that China is watching. I've also never been happy with the camera and after about a year an update caused issues so that often the camera app freezes. With Linux it might live yet a few more years for me. But I'm not going to buy another OP or similar brand.
