IIRC back in 2013 when the horse meat scandal was bubbling in the news and DNA testing meat was all the rage, I read a headline that Subway chicken meat was aledgedly found out to only be one third chicken, the rest being soy. My initial though back then was pretty much the same. Sadly, I can't find the "one third" claims any more, closest I can find right now are several "less then 50%" articles with addenda from around 2017[1][2][3].
