TIL that GitHub's blog uses Wordpress, I would have expected them to use the way faster JAMStack for their blog or Jekyll or Hugo.

  Wordpress can be extremely fast if you're CDN caching all of the content. No need to reinvent the wheel for a blog.

    Even the simple WP cache plugins can handle a fair amount of (non-logged in) traffic.
