- Bostonian 6y agoGood essay, but I wonder why the author does not mention Fortran in the section on Alternatives. Fortran 90 and later versions do have function and operator overloading, so it is may not be as clear as in Fortran 77 what a line of code does. But you can write modern Fortran (the latest standard is Fortran 2018, and Gnu Fortran supports much of it) that does not use these features.
