How does this interact with alternative and personalised keyboard layouts and with sticky keys for accessibility? I don't have a proper overview of how these things work, but I'm a bit worried that there may be multiple layers (reprogrammable keyboard, kernel, X server, terminal, editor) trying to solve similar problems in similar ways and they might end up interfering with each other.
