I quit smoking because I was getting gum infections all the time. It wasn't the only reason, just that last one that pushed me to quit. Inflamed gums don't feel so good. I still have a recessed gum line around a tooth where I would hold the cigarette. I have to believe that hot smoke from a joint causes the same type of irritation to tissue.
