Antifa writing death threats is unacceptable. No excuses. If the cause supports it then they are more about violence than fixing/improving the world.
Beating up journalists as they report is also unacceptable in a democracy regardless of affiliation.
I'm guessing that antifa didn't condemn these death threats either.
- WarOnPrivacy 6y agoDHS just issued a (fairly rare) threat advisory, regarding current risk from violent US extremists. https://www.dhs.gov/ntas/advisory/national-terrorism-advisory-system-bulletin-january-27-2021 https://www.dhs.gov/ntas/advisory/national-terrorism-advisor... "DVEs motivated by a range of issues, including anger over COVID-19 restrictions, the 2020 election results, and police use of force have plotted and on occasion carried out attacks against government facilities. " -- This doesn't seem like Antifa "Long-standing racial and ethnic tension—including opposition to immigration—has driven DVE attacks, including a 2019 shooting in El Paso, Texas that killed 23 people." -- This doesn't seem like Antifa "DHS is concerned these same drivers to violence will remain through early 2021 and some DVEs may be emboldened by the January 6, 2021 breach of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. to target elected officials and government facilities." -- This doesn't seem like Antifa It sort of seems like the reason someone might shout ANTFA over and over is to distract from actual threats from actual violent extremists - the same folks that Andy Ngo hangs out with.
- kwdc 6y agoWeren't various famous people getting various BLM people out of jail? Isn’t that, not so good? Lot of looting going on. My position is that its not-so-good for these groups to get a free pass since the precedent that is set then messes with justice regardless of the event that preceded it. Two wrongs don't make things right. Condemning the violence around the capitol while not doing the same for the violence around the anitfa actions and blm protests where there was also real violence... doesn't seem wise. The mess just gets bigger. Those on the left and right need to examine their actions. They are setting precedents that are shaping the future in some not-so-good ways. Chaos for the sake of chaos doesn't lead anywhere good.
- WarOnPrivacy 6y ago> Weren't various famous people getting various BLM people out of jail? Isn’t that, not so good? Lot of looting going on. Here you seem to be obfuscating (the most recent) 100+ years of systemic mistreatment of black+ Americans. The method is to conflate millions of people who are protesting that mistreatment, with people who leveraged the protests to loot. That's not an original method but it could help the larger goal of conserving those harmful systems. It also indicates that you are extremely intent on discrediting people who are trying to end their persistent, life-changing mistreatment. > Condemning the violence around the capitol while not doing the same for the violence around the anitfa actions and blm protests where there was also real violence... doesn't seem wise. This is more conflation. In this case you work with an assumption that protests against generations of life-changing abuse are ethically equal to protests against changing those abusive systems. As far as rioting to overturn unliked election results or the domestic terror plot to kidnap the governor, the daily new charges against members of those RW groups, speaks more clearly than any debate you and I could have. Just as a side note: I've been an R-voting conservative, my entire adult life. My first ever non-R PotUS vote was 2016. Because the world changes and my principles did not, I find myself wholly unaligned with what RW America has become.
- kwdc 6y agoInteresting. You think that my criticism of BLM and antifa is about peaceful protests. Or that sometimes protests become violent and thats acceptable? Ah ok. So them also looting random business and demanding people handing over houses is fine because... 100s of years of racism? I see. I'm trying to understand the situation of a vietamese family running a grocery store that is hit by BLM rioters who begin looting the contents thereof. But its "ok". Its just payback for 100s of years of racism. I'm sure those vietnamese understand that their little store needs to be punished. Its all "fine". As they lose their livelihood. Wrong. Its nothing to do with anything righteous. Its just thugs running wild causing mischief and creating more injustice. I've got nothing against protests against racism. You seem to be conflating the right to protest with the "right" to riot and cause pointless damage and random violence. We should definitely be condemning any BLM members using violence to rob stores and beat up random people. Otherwise you lose any shred of moral decency. You become part of the problem. But mine is an unpopular opinion apparently. Not allowed to criticise BLM or Antifa because their violence is somehow righteous. Just make sure you're not in their way. Even if you support them. They are happy to punch you in the face either way.
