- weakfish 6y agoAndy Ngo is barely a credible source.

Translate: Attempt to exhaust NGO detractors by getting them to seek after reports of people who've been exposing NGO. So, here's some NGO debunking. At the next NGO debunking, you could pretend you never heard any of this. "Andy Ngo, an editor at Quillette, wrote an opinion column in the Wall Street Journal about "Islamic England" that plays fast and loose with facts and context in a cowardly attempt to fear monger around England's Muslim population. Ngo visits pockets of Muslims living in London to paint a picture of a terrifying and restrictive land governed by religious law, which is an absolute fabrication that must have required him to willfully ignore facts." https://www.businessinsider.com/wall-street-journals-andy-ngo-writes-cowardly-islamic-england-2018-8 https://www.businessinsider.com/wall-street-journals-andy-ng... "Though he poses as a journalist, the purpose of his platform is to sow harassment and violence against his targets on the Left — and the mainstream media have fallen for it." https://www.jacobinmag.com/2019/08/andy-ngo-right-wing-antifa-protest-portland-bigotry https://www.jacobinmag.com/2019/08/andy-ngo-right-wing-antif... "But it wasn’t until Ngo was attacked at the June rally that he truly ascended to the ranks of right-wing media crap-stirrer. “Attacked by antifa. Bleeding. They stole my camera equipment. No police until after. waiting for ambulance . If you have evidence Of attack please help,” he tweeted, later adding that he had been diagnosed at the ER with a brain hemorrhage and that antifa had thrown quick-dry cement milkshakes at him. (This claim was later debunked.)" https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/andy-ngo-right-wing-troll-antifa-877914/ https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/andy-n...
- kwdc 6y agoYou assume antagonistic intent when all I suggested was you back up a one-liner claim with a straightforward explanation.
- WarOnPrivacy 6y agoThis guy seems to be an extremist RW operator, using a side gig as a conservative journalist as cover. "Ngo's coverage of anti-fascist groups has been controversial, with philosopher Jason Stanley contending in an interview with the Southern Poverty Law Center that Ngo promotes a false equivalence between left and right-wing political violence in the U.S. In August 2019, a video surfaced that showed Ngo standing near members the far-right group Patriot Prayer who later attacked patrons of the well-known Antifa hangout Cider Riot bar. Media sources described Ngo as smiling and laughing in the video, and the Portland Mercury's Alex Zielinski reported that 'there’s no way [Ngo] couldn't know the group was planning on instigating violence'. Ngo denied overhearing plans to commit any crime. Ngo departed from Quillette the day the story was made public" ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Ngo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Ngo
- kwdc 6y agoAntifa writing death threats is unacceptable. No excuses. If the cause supports it then they are more about violence than fixing/improving the world. Beating up journalists as they report is also unacceptable in a democracy regardless of affiliation. I'm guessing that antifa didn't condemn these death threats either.
- WarOnPrivacy 6y agoDHS just issued a (fairly rare) threat advisory, regarding current risk from violent US extremists. https://www.dhs.gov/ntas/advisory/national-terrorism-advisory-system-bulletin-january-27-2021 https://www.dhs.gov/ntas/advisory/national-terrorism-advisor... "DVEs motivated by a range of issues, including anger over COVID-19 restrictions, the 2020 election results, and police use of force have plotted and on occasion carried out attacks against government facilities. " -- This doesn't seem like Antifa "Long-standing racial and ethnic tension—including opposition to immigration—has driven DVE attacks, including a 2019 shooting in El Paso, Texas that killed 23 people." -- This doesn't seem like Antifa "DHS is concerned these same drivers to violence will remain through early 2021 and some DVEs may be emboldened by the January 6, 2021 breach of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. to target elected officials and government facilities." -- This doesn't seem like Antifa It sort of seems like the reason someone might shout ANTFA over and over is to distract from actual threats from actual violent extremists - the same folks that Andy Ngo hangs out with.
