So following this line of thought, if a bunch of HNer's can see through it, why couldn't a nation state?

  A nation-state has to take it much more seriously, because they have a much bigger downside if it's actually true.

    To be fair, if there's a weapon in the works that can manipulate the fabric of spacetime, we probably all share that same downside if its true :P
