House - an operating system written in Haskell
- zephjc 15y agoSo it's slightly crippled, sometimes difficult, but always correct?
- joshhart 15y agoI don't have enough karma to downvote you, but I don't think this kind of attitude is appropriate here. This is a pretty neat project. In the Unix era, people believed operating systems had to be written in assembly and that an OS in C would be far too slow or bloated.
- th 15y agoI think he may have been making a reference to the character House on the American TV show House M.D.
- zephjc 15y agoAs th said, it's a House reference. I think this project is great, and I admire the effort put in, but not everything on HN needs to be Señor Seriousface.
- joshhart 15y agoEgg on my face. The reference totally blew past me, and it's clever enough that it probably belongs. Something cool like this used to get lots of discussion. Mainly it's just controversial stuff or business stuff that seems to bubble up and there's a fair bit of snark. I kind of feel like we need some more Erlang again :)
- vegai 15y agoBeing both an accurate House (the tv-series) reference and a flippant Haskell reference, it's actually quite brilliant and definitely appropriate.
- dons 15y agoNote that a lot of this work evolved into HaLVM and HaNS http://halvm.org http://halvm.org
- AashayDesai 15y agoEr....Haskell User's Operating System and Environment. Shouldn't that be HUOSE? :\
- masterzora 15y agoAnd I suppose you think the House Committee on Un-American Activities should have been HCUA? :P
