meson has the problem of being written in Python and thus even an end-user has to endure Python library distribution.

  And autotools have the problem of requiring perl, m4, and some other stuff i think. And cmake requires C++. I take python over all of these anytime. That said, it's still far from ideal.

    M4 doesn't need to be installed on the software distribution's computer (that was my point). Perl I don't even know if it needs to be installed on the packager's computer.
