I wish someone added a Makefile backend to meson. That would make it a much more appealing as an alternative to the autotools mess.
- 7786655 6y agoWhy? You need Python to run Meson anyway, might as well install Ninja too.
- turminal 6y agoYou don't actually need python for ninja. Someone wrote a compatible tool in C called samurai.
- vmchale 6y agomeson has the problem of being written in Python and thus even an end-user has to endure Python library distribution.
- turminal 6y agoAnd autotools have the problem of requiring perl, m4, and some other stuff i think. And cmake requires C++. I take python over all of these anytime. That said, it's still far from ideal.
