This seems like an unreasonable assessment. The preprint is available (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.01.25.427948v1 https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.01.25.427948v1), submitted for peer review, and the article is pretty clear from the start that this is a preliminary finding.
