- jacobr1 6y agoThe foundation doesn't develop the code, they just provide infrastructure, both legal and hosting. So if the OO community can't get its act together, what they need to do is "downgrade" OO is some form to communicate the project has stalled. They also have a PR funnel to call for more contributions. But my understanding is that https://www.libreoffice.org/ https://www.libreoffice.org/ has all the momentum now.
- bklaasen 6y agoYes, but OpenOffice still has the brand and mindshare, especially among less tech-savvy folk. Just the other day I was doing some work cleaning up a friend's computer, only to discover they had OpenOffice installed. The right thing for Apache to do is shut down OpenOffice and point at LibreOffice instead. https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2020/10/12/open-letter-to-apache-openoffice/ https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2020/10/12/open-let...
- type0 6y agoI have even seen some generally tech savy users that still use it, it has primarily been in some youtube programming tutorials on windows (ignorance is a bliss), it is disappointing nevertheless.
