    I thought that ticks are insects? however the diseases they cause are caused by bacteria and other non-insects which they carry around, which I think is the point

      Ticks are arachnids and have 8 legs.

      Ticks have eight legs and are thus not insects, but more closely related (I think?) to spiders.

  There is some research that shows that done of these parasites may have the beneficial action of preventing autoimmune disease by modulating the immune system response.
