A friend of mine who did a masters in wine (pinot noir) and a phd in sensory perception ie tasting, keeps scads of left over wine samples in her fridge in used (and washed) plastic drink bottles of various sizes (to minimize air volume).
The tricky part of all this though is to know, for a given red wine, how long it should breathe before pouring. It seems some wines really benefit and others don't.
