Tangent, but something similar is my main beef with the Tesla Model 3 (& Y), which otherwise would be the perfect candidate for my next car. I really wish it had some physical controls. What's more infuriating is the lack of a binnacle right in front of you. The older Model S & X have one, but supposedly the upcoming refresh is going to take it away. At least the F-35 has a helmet mounted display even if no HUD. I believe Musk's rationale is that when these cars become self driving, there will be no need of a binnacle or even a HUD.
