Show HN: HacKit, a native macOS Cocoa app for reading Hacker News
- anosidium 6y agoHey Hacker News, I am the developer of this app. It’s my first macOS Cocoa app. This is a Mac first app which means it is built for the Mac, not an afterthought and taking advantage of the design language, frameworks and the platform. It is also not a port of an iPhone nor iPad app and not a Catalyst app or a cross-platform app like Electron, Java etc. It is a true native AppKit app written in Swift. I have plans to improve it. It’s only a humble beginning. I would love to know what you think about it. I welcome all kinds of feedbacks.
- meester_ben 6y agoI like it! More UI customizations would be nice, like changing the font family and size. EDIT: also being able to pin a story to the sidebar would be excellent.
- anosidium 6y agoThanks! I'll add your suggestions to my list of features. About pinning a story, do you mean a dedicated bookmarks section to store all your favourite stories?
- meester_ben 6y agoMore like I want to come back later and read more comments but I don't want to have to scroll or search for the story again.

- anosidium 6y agoNot yet though. The official API doesn't support it.
- mittermayr 6y agoWould be cool to have a button that says "comment" or "respond" or something that opens the browser at that url's comment section, so I can continue there. I'm logged in on the browser anyway.
- anosidium 6y agoInteresting idea! I think it might be a frustrating user experience because you either completely browse and post on the web browser or do it from the app. Doing it in between may not be a smooth experience. I wish the official APIs support account login. I would have implemented it already.

- helloSam43 6y agowhy? what? why not support like 10.12 11+ only, what was the super cool toolkit you needed for this app to cut off people on like not that old laptops that can't update.
