Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I’d rather address the nazis themselves than the tools they use. People still drive Volkswagens and wear Hugo Boss.
Edit: A bit surprised to see this comment flagged. What about HN's guidelines were violated by this response to the parent comment's allusion to Nazis?
- Nowado 6y agoEach part of this mutually beneficial relationship is equally replaceable and necessary.
- chopin24 6y agoYou should read “ IBM and the Holocaust: The Strategic Alliance between Nazi Germany and America's Most Powerful Corporation.” It’s not either/or, it’s both/and. This fucking matters. Letting corporations off the hook because they were just following orders enables genocide.
- lrvick 6y agoSince you brought it up... Some of the Nazis that setup the gas chambers likely said "I don't like this but I have to do it because my boss told me to. They have all the responsibility." It sounds a lot like you are trying to justify work you are not particularly proud of to me.
- taywrobel 6y agoI’m not a fan of invoking Godwin’s law, I only mentioned the nazis because the commenter I responded to make the allusion. And you’re entitled to your opinion, of course, but I wouldn’t recommend trying to presume anyone’s intentions.
- dang 6y agoPlease don't do this here. Nothing good can come of it—it's the oldest and most extreme move in the internet playbook, and its meaning has been diluted to the point of being just a point-scoring status move, and a cheap one at that. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
