Starlink Satellites: Current Impact on the Night Sky and Astronomy
- Pick-A-Hill2019 6y agoIt still strikes me as odd that a single country's regulatory body can permit / allow / license this since the sky that I look up at isn't the same bit of sky that an American would see and yet it impacts us all. I mean – Yes, access to high speed (relatively speaking) internet access is a fantastic thing so my objections aren’t in the nimby (‘Not In My Back Yard') category. I have experienced what life is like with limited/restricted/slow bandwidth and it is limiting and disadvantaging in so very many ways. However - Darn it - It's literal graffiti/pollution that I had absolutely Zero Yes/No say about. Furthermore – Spotting and reporting rapidly approaching small objects (meteors etc.) is important and a fair amount of the initial sightings are from amateur telescopes. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope – it’s a Starlink.
