Avoiding blocking file-name lookups
- PaulHoule 6y agoIt is a problem in Microsoft Windows. My work laptop connects to a shared drive on a VPN which I may or may not be connected to: either way it could take a long time to find the drive or decide it won't find it. In that case Windows Explorer or Eclipse or some other application could be hung for 30 seconds or so. I see the beachball a lot on the Mac too; user interfaces go a lot smoother if you NEVER let a GUI update block on on a filesystem access.
