Review of the decentralised social ecosystem from bluesky
- analyte123 6y agoLink to the actual paper and not Twitter: https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/twitter.modular.im/981b258141aa0b197804127cd2f7d298757bad20 https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/twitter.modular... It's a pretty good primer, being mostly a compendium by the developers of the various protocols without a lot of opinion or comparison between them. Perhaps Twitter's Bluesky will help develop or fund one or more of these solutions. Curious if anyone has experience with Iris or IPFS-based stuff like Peergos, Anytype, and Peepeth. The only ones on this list that I know you can just "get on" and starting doing stuff are SSB, Aether, Fediverse, and of course XMPP and Matrix. I'm surprised that Urbit isn't covered in here because it definitely has more users than Aether and Solid (which has 0 currently).

- riffic 6y agoTwitter, as a company, has a horrible track record in supporting the developer community. This seems like a good project on its face, but ultimately (IMO) serves as a distraction. While the paper released today is worth reading and the people on the team are sure to have good motivations, I wouldn't get my hopes up on this.
