> 40 minutes before the plane lands the captain comes on the loudspeaker. In addition to supplying gate numbers, he tells you how long the wait times are at Customs and Immigration, he gives you a weather report, and he provides an estimate for how long it will take a taxi or car service to reach the city.
Aargh this is so annoying. I’m just trying to rest and watch a movie, then the captain comes in and drones on and on about stuff I don’t really care about. Then the flight attendant comes in after and repeats everything the captain just said. The worst
- viraptor 6y agoWorse: When the announcement happens the movie stops and the unchangeable volume of the announcement is ~100x louder than what you were watching. Then if you're on a cheap flight, you get another announcement about last chance to buy something from in-flight duty-free. Some Airlines don't care about satisfaction, just maximising profit where you have no other options. The most annoying things are often those that have been explicitly added by the airlines. Added: My hack for the volume issue - take your own short audio cable with inline volume control. Set the system playback to max volume and turn down your own analog dial.
- ElKrist 6y agoYes when they hijack your earphones the sudden volume increase hurts. I once flew through Saudia Airlines and fell asleep with my earphones on (I was listening to some music from their system). Getting suddenly woken up by the start of the prayer "Allahu Akbar" with a deep loud voice straight in my ears was an experience I'll never forget

- frombody 6y agoWorse, you're on an international flight to or from a place that has multiple national languages and they have to do all the announcements 3x.
- vinay427 6y agoOn most legacy airlines and probably many others, international flights also tend to include announcements in English which means this can happen in three languages even when flying to places that only speak one language each. However, I've had many flights not include the local language of one place, which is arguably worse, although a flight attendant would likely be able to provide a translation. The ideal (as mentioned) for me is to just limit the content of the announcements by excluding connections and other bits that can easily be found in the airport.
- nelgaard 6y agoWorse, I sometimes fly CPH-Toronto. Watching a movie. The captain comes in to tell us what the outside temperature is at 20000 feet, etc. The movie continues after a random time: [5-25] seconds. Then he comes in again and do the same in French. Random interval, then the same in Danish. If it is a Lufthansa code-share plane, then we also get it in German. And the same for the dinner menu (always chicken or pasta), informing us that they will soon be handing out forms to fill in, etc. And all this information you can just look on the infotainment system if you really want it.
