3Mbps uploads still fast enough for US homes, Ajit Pai says in final report
- netizen-9748 6y agoPretty difficult for streaming to compete with cable services for entertainment
- polka_haunts_us 6y agoI always wonder why more politicians aren't like "We need to tear down the Comcasts of the world, not because of my left/right wing ideology, but because they're crap". Ideologically I like the free market as much as the next Capitalist, but I wouldn't shed many tears over that kind of intervention.
- Nextgrid 6y agoBecause Comcast pays you a lot of money and has a lot of marketing (=lying) potential. If their money doesn't convince you, Comcast can easily fund a lying campaign saying that you are forcing them to raise prices and they'd have to pass them onto customers which means you won't have any voters.
- ian-g 6y agoStrongly disagree. It might be ok for one person with one or two devices you don't use at the same time Otherwise, no, strongly disagree
- drallison 6y agoHe is wrong. 20 Mb/s is barely adequate. Pai's opinion may be informed by requirements that telcos and others provide "high speed internet" and they can only provide 3 Mb/s without making a considerable investment. Raw speed is not the only issue. When I was living in "semi-rural" Montana, the constraint on performance had to do with the number of sessions. When the DSLAM ran out of session slots, a session was simply dropped in favor of the most recent one. Movie night became a nightmare of disjointed video fragments and irritating reconnects for everyone.
- ratsmack 6y agoI just want all infrastructure to be made into a public utility so I can pick the network service provider of my own choice.
