All of my investments are in index funds, 95% stocks. I'm investing for 20-30yrs down the road, so I see no reason to invest in bonds. My house about 1/2 of my current net worth. I keep it pretty boring.
- dragontamer 6y agoVBTLX (Vanguard Total Bond Index) grew ~10% over the last two years. You invest into Bonds because Bonds go up when the market goes up (but not as fast as Stocks), and up when the stock market goes down. If there's a crash next year, you sell a portion of your bonds and buy back stocks. If you're already 95% or 100% Stocks, you won't be able to buy the dip.
- abfan1127 6y agoThere is certainly a strategy that involves bonds. My investments are up more than 10% in the last two years. There may be opportunity for improvement, but for my level of effort I'm quite happy with my rate of returns, which were much better than VBTLX.
