Just a heads up that I expected to see this discrepancy explained away via understandable mistrust on the part of Black Americans, so I did a little back of the envelope math based on an NPR survey of people indicating they would be willing to get vaccinated and this article.
My conclusion is that given a state like North Carolina with about 30% Black healthcare workers and their assumed willingness to be vaccinated as compared to their White, Asian, and Latinx counterparts I expected to see a 20% rate rather than a 10% rate.
To me it seems clear that there is much more than Black apprehension at play here.
