Most of us have already had the experience of shouting at a retail employee through plexiglass, now imagine that plexi is an inch in front of your nose permanently. Not only are people going to have trouble hearing you, but your own voice is going to get concave-dish-bounced directly back into your own ears... I suspect it'll be very unpleasant.
