I think I would like to use Photoshop. But Creative Cloud stops me, once upon a time I was needed to delete Adobe apps from PC and it was a nightmare. Nowadays you can't install Adobe apps without Creative Cloud.
- eertami 6y agoMy plan is to keep using Photoshop CS6 for as long as my computer will let me. There aren't any CC features that I feel a compelling need to use.
- forgingahead 6y agoHave you tried GIMP? Haven't used Photoshop in ages, but GIMP can open PSD files, so hopefully it's close enough to functionality to replace Photoshop. https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ https://www.gimp.org/downloads/
- kogepathic 6y agoHave you tried Photopea? Photopea can also open PSD files, and it runs entirely in a browser so it's suitable for using on a Chromebook. https://www.photopea.com/ https://www.photopea.com/
- cerved 6y agoGIMP is a useable FOSS alternative but sucks when compared to Photoshop if you're using it professionally
- 2Gkashmiri 6y agowith all the updates gimp has been churning out lately, do you know if anyone has done a feature comparison of how far exactly is gimp from photoshop? time or features https://www.gimp.org/news/2020/12/25/gimp-2-99-4-released/ https://www.gimp.org/news/2020/12/25/gimp-2-99-4-released/
- jsmith99 6y agoThe biggest thing missing is non destructive editing (eg adjustment layers). It's coming in GIMP 3.2 sometime in the future.
- 2Gkashmiri 6y agoSo theoretically in the next 2 years or whatever, this big feature and many smaller ones will come to gimp. Still how long before mass adoption would start because as you mentioned the biggest hurdle?
- meowster 6y agoAre they ever going to change the interface, or make an extension, that will allow people leaving Photoshop to easily use it?
- jsmith99 6y agoI think out of fear of making it seem a Photoshop clone they go too far in doing things a different way.
- jokteur 6y agoGimp is a free solution, but unfortunately is very weak in terms of functionalities and interface compared to Photoshop. I have been using Affinity Photo for a few years, and I have to say it is a very solid alternative to Photoshop. It only costs 50$ (pay once, no subscription, free updates ; also there is a promotion of 25$ currently). You get all the advanced features that photoshop can offer, like non destructive layers, smart inpainting, RAW development, smart brushes, export layers, and so on. Affinity photo is compatible with their other softwares like Affinity Designer (alternative to Illustrator) and Affinity Publisher (alternative to InDesign).
- diegoperini 6y agoKrita has been a good PS replacement for me.
