Everything Is Broken
- hindsightbias 6y agoHow woke. I’m sure those 27 upvotes in 10 minutes read all that.
- mudil 6y agoI read it in full, before I posted.
- eindiran 6y agoEverything is broken: https://www.unadulterated-faff.com/assets/everything-is-broken.png https://www.unadulterated-faff.com/assets/everything-is-brok... I guess we can safely add journalism and the open web to the author's pet list of broken institutions. > Give up on our current institutions; they already gave up on us. > Sometimes the task of rebuilding—of accepting what has been broken and making things anew—is so daunting that it can almost feel easier to believe it can’t be done. But it can. I can't really tell what (if anything...) actionable we the audience are supposed to take from this article. "Give up on your old institutions and build new ones!" is not exactly actionable without profound bloodshed, which I think is unlikely to be what the author wants.
- polka_haunts_us 6y agoI'm glad you talk about the lack of actionability. I think we've all figured out at this point that we hate each others guts. My mom was telling me an anecdote the other day about author in Montana whose blood started boiling b/c he saw a pickup truck with on the back, not that they were Trump flags, but the mere idea that they could potentially be Trump flags. So what. They're not going to shut up and go away, Democrats sure didn't while Trump tried to bulldoze everything. "Change your mind and believe what I believe" isn't signal, it's noise. We need A LOT more signal.
