The Next Tesla? Investors Bet Big on Electric Truck Maker Rivian
- hindsightbias 6y ago“The process of creating something like this is anything but simple,” R.J. Scaringe, Rivian’s founder and chief executive, said in an interview. “It’s a complex orchestra, several thousand parts coming from several hundred suppliers. It’s definitely far more complex than people think and far more complex than I thought it would be.” Not a reassuring statement I would expect of moonshot efforts or speak to the competency of being able to undertake the task at hand. Also, several hundred suppliers is not congruent with the whole startup/vertical integration fad or valuation model. Why would one want to invest in a strategy that is as dependent on suppliers as GM and Ford?
