I think the point people are making is that much of the news you read will be a summary of what happened on Today that morning. That’s where a lot of political interviews happen, for example. Lots of political live blogs etc just repeat it. That does of course mean that you don’t need to actually listen to it, unless you want to hear from the horse’s mouth.
