Third of recovered Covid patients return to hospital in 5 months and 1 in 8 die
- PragmaticPulp 6y agoThe statistic is that 1/3 of previously hospitalized COVID patients return to the hospital. We're definitely not seeing 1/3 of all COVID patients return to the hospital. If a COVID infection progresses to the point that hospitalization is necessary, the situation is already quite bad.
- tinus_hn 6y agoGiven that the large majority of hospitalized people are old or have preexisting conditions, it would be more useful to compare this with people from the same age and with the same medical history who have not been infected.
- mensetmanusman 6y agoIt may help clarify (and potentially reduce fear mongering): this is for people that had severe covid and recovered, not just ‘oh I lost my taste while working from home’. This implies all the statistics behind the likelihood of being in the severe covid group in the first place.
- gnusty_gnurc 6y ago> “We don’t know if it’s because Covid destroyed the beta cells which make insulin and you get Type 1 diabetes, or whether it causes insulin resistance, and you develop Type 2, but we are seeing these surprising new diagnoses of diabetes,” he added. I don't know it's always seemed to me like there's a significant portion of populations in western societies that are affected by chronic illness as a result of unhealthy diets. And covid wipes these people out. I'd be surprised if covid is giving healthy people diabetes, instead of overwhelming people with pancreases that are barely eking by as it is on account of too much McDonalds.
