I went out of the way to exclude JS from my blog, partly for the fun of it, to see how far I can go before I need it, and partly for reasons mentioned here + optimizing for speed.
One of the things I enjoyed doing without JS was using a comma-separated tag system for posts and then filtering the post list by tag.
- dgb23 6y agoDid you use checkbox labels with it? I like the technique, but am concerned about accessibility.
- approxim8ion 6y agoNo, I use a Python-based static site generator so I essentially generate a new page for each tag, populated with links to the posts containing that tag.
- dgb23 6y agoI see! This would be the standard server side / pre-rendered approach. I somehow thought you did a client side solution w/o JS.
- approxim8ion 6y agoThat would be interesting, if it was possible to do it in a minimal way!
- shamas 6y agoWhat is your automated deployment pipeline for this kind of website?
- approxim8ion 6y agoI write posts in an editor (presently nvim), generate the site, and have a git hook that basically publishes it to neocities along with pushing it to my repository. It's very much a tiny hobby blog so I haven't put much effort into the whole process.
