"These people" intend to write that history, and ensure the pendulum never swings back against their favour. Consider how few communist governments were destroyed by counter-revolutions. That (almost?) never happens. Instead once the hard left seizes control of a society, it stays in control unless the society completely collapses. We tend to think that sort of takeover couldn't happen to us in the Anglo-sphere, but why not? It has in plenty of other places.
