I'm sure someone smart will design a way for USB-C to plug into your MacBook without the risk of ripping out your I/O board if you trip over the cable. We don't need magsafe, we just need some sort of clever springy socket.

The USB standard is pretty specific about connectors; I doubt the resulting connector would be licensed to be called USB.
