Ask HN: If you take lot of Vitamin D what else do you supplement with and why?
I have read things that indicate that vitamin D alone is not ideal. So wondering what are other people doing.
- solus_factor 6y agoVitamin K2 is a must, because without it all the extra calcium will be just hanging in your blood and that's not good. D increases absorption, while K2 increases utilization. And we're all starved of K2 because industrial farmers feed crappy food to our animals...

- techsin101 6y agoi've read that if you don't take enough calcium then to maintain blood level vit D causes calcium to be taken from bones. however, no clue about numbers. I drink two glasses of milk and get way more calcium than i need, is 4000 IU vitamin D high enough to warrant k2? what about body weight/composition, gender and my diet. Nutrition science is in middle ages for sure
- solus_factor 6y agoWell, for one it will deposit in the walls of your arteries.
- mrfusion 6y agoIs it ok to take d in the morning and k2 in the afternoon?
- solus_factor 6y agoMy guess would be that it's OK. Vitamin D should definitely be taken in the morning, as it affects circadian clock, but K2 timing is probably not that important.
- mrfusion 6y agoIs k2 equally important if you don’t take d but get a lot of natural sun exposure?
- codevark 6y agoBiotin for my pickin' nails. And flowing locks of 60yo hair hehe Milk Thistle, for my overworked liver. Lutien, for my eyes. Fish oil, for my heart. Multi-mineral for mineral-needing stuff. C, just because. And something called "Cogniful", for my tiny mind.
- Frypa 6y agoMacula carotenoids: lutein , zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin For eye health. I actually only went for this supplement because the BBC had a documentary about it and it proved to be helpful for the eyes.
- mrfusion 6y agoMagnesium?
- sc00b89 6y agoI take 5k IU of Jarrow Formula D3. What is the recommended amount of K2?

- robotcookies 6y agoMelatonin and turmeric. The melatonin is actually more to help me wake up than fall asleep. I used to have a horrible time waking up. Now I usually wake up right before my alarm goes off.
- joshxyz 6y agoFish oil, just because im not getting enough fish lately lol.
