Californians are resorting to crowdsourcing to get their Covid-19 vaccine
- disabled 6y ago> Texas has a huge map of vaccination locations across the whole state, with the ones with availability highlighted. Texas also has an “accessibility version” of this, that is an Excel file that is being constantly updated and is far more navigable. It can be sorted in ascending/descending order by primary/secondary/tertiary criteria (Excel columns), like “date last updated”, “time last updated”, and “number of vaccines available”. Nevertheless, rollout is a mess in Texas. I probably spent 20+ hours this week trying to get a vaccine for my elderly family members. In a lot of states, it’s nearly impossible for somebody 65+ at this point to get a vaccine slot without their children/nieces/nephews looking near constantly and perpetually. Some of the signup websites also have messed up APIs. If the young person signing up their relatives is not very technical for their age group and is not extremely vigilant, then it is unlikely that they will be successful at this point. While Texas is not doing super terribly at releasing its vaccine reserve, as of yesterday it was the #48 state in terms of vaccinated people per capita.

Seems to be #18 in terms of doses administered per capita according to the CDC tracker. Of course, that doesn't preclude things in Texas being a mess... just that it's less of a mess than about 32 other states. Meanwhile California is at #45. - disabled 6y agoThank you for the clarification. I am living abroad, so information comes to me via a different medium. However, I saw a local news segment from a major Texas metro area on an NBC channel that made that claim on the 5 PM news yesterday.
- salmon30salmon 6y agoIt is beyond unacceptable for states to now be working on their vaccine plans. Anyone with any sort of understanding would have known in April the only way out was a vaccine. Why weren't tracking apps made then? Why weren't rollout plans made then? And I know, they didn't know the details. You don't need to know the specifics to know that you are going up need a tracking system, a notification system, some sort of order of priority etc. My state is still discussing who is after medical workers. People are dying! Businesses are closing! Why is this being treated with the same urgency that seems to plague the DMV. This isn't car registrations, these are lives!
